A 50-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Thursday to face charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a teenager in critical condition while he apparently tried to cross Highway 20 in Dorval early Wednesday morning.
The suspect was arrested in Brossard hours after a 17-year-old male carrying a suitcase was struck by a car around 3:15 a.m. on a section of the highway near 55 Ave. The driver left the scene of the incident, but Longueuil police later tracked down car, with a broken windshield and blood on it, on Matte Blvd. in Brossard. The suspect was arrested and turned over to the Sûreté du Québec for questioning.
The subsequent on-site crime-scene investigation caused all eastbound lanes to be shut down and forced commuters to detour onto Côte-de-Liesse Rd., creating rush-hour chaos for the entire road network as traffic spilled onto Highway 40 and other parallel thoroughfares. The highway was reopened before 9 a.m.
The victim is now listed as being in critical, but stable, condition.
