The Montreal police are investigating an attempted murder in Verdun after a man was shot Wednesday afternoon while behind the wheel of a small vehicle used for snow removal.
The shooting took place at around 4:30 p.m. on Gordon St. near Bannantyne Ave. Montreal police spokesperson Constable Daniel Lacoursière said the man was struck by at least one bullet and suffered a wound to his upper body. He described the 46-year-old victim as someone who is “well known” to police and said the victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that doctors do not consider to be life-threatening.
“According to witnesses, the man was inside equipment used for snow removal on Gordon St., just south of Bannantyne Ave., when a vehicle heading north on Bannantyne pulled up close to it. One of the occupants of the vehicle fired at least one shot toward (the victim),” Lacoursière said.
The vehicle left the scene and no one has been arrested
Crime-scene technicians were focusing their attention on a small plow parked on Gordon St. commonly used to remove snow from residential driveways. The plow had stickers on its windows indicating it is owned by a private company that removes snow for home-owners as well as businesses. According to the company’s website, it takes on contracts in southwestern Montreal from Griffintown to LaSalle and Nuns’ Island. The Montreal Gazette was unable to reach a representative of the company Wednesday evening.
According to court records and the provincial business registry, the company is owned by a 46-year-old South Shore resident.
