Lawyers and notaries who work for the provincial government voted Tuesday in favour of continuing a strike that began in October.
The vote was taken after members of the Avocats et notaires de l’état québécois (LANEQ) met in Quebec City and Montreal to be updated on the latest offer made by Treasury Board president Pierre Moreau, who took over the file in mid-January. Sixty-three percent of those who voted opted to continue the strike, which began on Oct. 24. They also voted 96 per cent in favour of rejecting the most recent offer made by the provincial government. They are seeking pay increases in line, percentage-wise, with what Crown prosecutors were given.
LANEQ represents 1,100 lawyers and notaries who, among other things, draft legislation that is voted on in the National Assembly and work for Revenue Québec. Others represent the government before tribunals like the provincial liquor board. They have been without a collective agreement since March 2015.
