Glenn Crossley made a brief appearance before a Quebec Court judge on Tuesday where he learned the Crown objects to his release while he is charged with killing a man in a bar in LaSalle last year.

The 46-year-old’s court appearance was covered by several media outlets at the Montreal courthouse because of his previous criminal record. In 1989, he killed Canadian Olympic gold medallist Victor Davis in a hit-and-run accident in Ste-Anne de Bellevue. Crossley received a 10-month sentence in that case, and he now finds himself charged with causing the death of another person.

He is accused of killing 70-year-old Albert Arsenault, a grandfather of two who died after hitting his head while falling down stairs in a bar on Newman Blvd. in LaSalle on Sept. 17.

Crossley’s lawyer, Gilbert Frigon, asked that the manslaughter charge not be read into the court record for the time being, which meant Crossley did not have to enter a plea. Prosecutor Jacques Dagenais then informed Judge Sylvie Kovacevich the Crown objects to Crossley’s release. A bail hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.
